Introduction to Pyrography

Jessie O'Brien

Jessie has been an artist all of her life, drawing as a child as well as during class according to her former teachers. She graduated from Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in Illustration, earned a Masters of Education in Arts and Learning and currently works as an art teacher. Jessie is a member of the New England Woodcarvers Association. Additional information about Jessie and examples of her work can be found at www.jessieobrien.com.
Date: June 29 and 30, 2013
Time: Saturday: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Sunday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Cost: $110 for MWCA Members, $125 for all others. Fee includes materials
Class limit: Ten (10)
Location: Sabattus, Maine (directions will be provided to attendees)
Required Tools:
• A woodburning system with various nibs (a skew, shader and writer/ballpoint will be all you ever need)
• A soft pencil
• Fine grit sandpaper
• A utility blade
• A soft eraser
• A tack cloth or rag
• Wood and patterns will be provided
• Optional: leather strop and fine abrasive compound for sharpening skews
Note: MWCA has woodburning systems that you can borrow if needed. Contact Hariph Smith if you need one.

There is a Pizza shop and a store that sells sandwiches, both within a short distance. Or bring a bag lunch, a kitchen is available.
Bellamy Eagle Seminar

Class limit: Twelve (12)
Location: D&L Printing, Newcastle, Maine
This class is well suited to all levels of carvers.
Required Tools:
• Carving knives
• Gouges
• Mallet
• Two clamps that open at least 4 inches to secure work to a table

The location is close ( 2 to 3 miles) to Wiscasset and Damariscotta where lunch is available. Participants can bring a lunch as well. Snacks will be provided.

Camp and Carve Weekend

Camper Trailers, Motor Homes, Tents, what ever your camping equipment. There is a large field for parking campers and setting up tents. A large open air covered pavilion and room for other canopies to be set up is available for carving classes with talented Maine carvers. There are no utility hookups for campers, potable water is available.
Friday and Saturday evenings there will be campfires and community sing-alongs. Saturday evening the church will host a Bean Hole Supper. Face Painting, soap carving and games for kids.
Carving classes will include: Water fowl, Chip Carving, Caricature Dog, Caricature Human, Chain Links, Shaker Box and more.
Adults $15.00 each, children under 16 free.
Bring folding lawn chairs and something to share at the Pot Luck supper Friday evening.
Note: Norm Devonshire's class has been cancelled.
